Closed

Well, we did it. We closed on our house. It should be recorded today. And then the clock starts ticking - the sellers have 72 hours to get out. Then it's all ours.

There wasn't as much paperwork to sign as I anticipated. People always talk about how tedious it is, signing your name over and over again, and the stack is thicker than War and Peace, and it feels like it will never end. Not so, for us. I guess we don't have as much paperwork and some, since we only have 1 loan, and everything was pretty straightforward. We got to the title company just after 4, and we were in the car ready to go home at 4:50. That was including the time it took to take Julia out of her carseat so she would calm down (side note: Julia doesn't like strangers to talk to her while she is in her carseat. It freaks her out. And nothing will calm her down short of getting out of the carseat and being held by her mom or her dad. If she doesn't know you, please wait until she is in the arms of one of her parents. She does much better that way. And then you don't go away thinking that babies hate you.)

Also, we did our "final walkthrough" yesterday, right before closing. We didn't expect anything to be wrong, but we figured that we should walk through it one more time, just to make sure. And to get us excited. The sellers were there, cleaning and packing. In fact, the lady was shampooing the carpets, so now we know that we don't have to do that when we move in. And she was so kind as to tell us that she cleaned the shelf paper, so we can use it if we want, but we can replace it if we don't like it, it's our call. Thanks. Seeing as it's Our House. Funny lady. And her husband was telling us all about how to work the icemaker on the fridge, and that the peaches ripen late, and they have 1 tomato plant out there, and all about the neighbors. You can tell that they are attached to the house, and the neighborhood, even though they've only lived there a few years. Anyway, they seemed like really nice people, and very clean people, which makes me breathe a sigh of relief, because we won't have a massive clean-up waiting for us when we move in. Just the massive clean-up at our current apartment.

WE ARE HOME OWNERS! Now the economy needs to pick up again.

CONGRATS!! That is so awesome. Good luck with the move. The amount of paperwork you sign is different with different types of loans. You must not have had an FHA loan. We didn't, so the paperwork wasn't too bad.

Al: We actually did have an FHA loan. They mentioned that they aren't as strict as they used to be, at least in this area. But even so, I think even the title company lady was happily surprised at how little paperwork we had.

I'm so excited for you. I was thinking about you all day yesterday and wondering when you would actually be "closing." It's so nice that they're leaving it clean for you! I agree about the paperwork. We have an FHA loan too and I was pleasantly surprised at how much time it DIDN'T take. Anyways congrats again, I'm excited that you'll be closer!
